Day 10-The Monolith

About a week ago Jon and I decided to re-do the bathroom in his basement. We selected a color titled "rain" and went to Sherwin Williams, got two gallons, went back to his house and went to town! We had a great time and were so happy when it was finished. The next day we went to a couple of stores and bought decorations that we thought would look great in the new bathroom. I, of course took some pictures and sent them to my mom. She sent back a very jealous text back that said she of course loved it, but she also asked if I would "design" the jack and jill bathroom that my brother and I share.

I of course accepted this request and soon found myself at Target with my mom. She picked out a shower curtain, and I helped with the rugs and different pieces needed to accent the bathroom. I then snapped a couple of pictures with my phone's new app, which is titled "Color Snap." It is created by Sherwin Williams and it's sole purpose is to take pictures of anything, select a color and it will match your inspiration with a color they have in the store. I would recommend this to anyone, because it helped pick our bathroom color!

So, after using "Color Snap" we selected Parakeet and French Roast. We set to work. If you have been privileged enough to step foot into my house, you will know and understand what I'm talking about when I say that the walls in my house are VERY difficult to paint!! Number one reason is because of how high the ceilings are, and reason number two is because of how difficult the angles are. Without any hesitation, we were bound and determined to conquer this task and get it done right! My mom and I worked all day yesterday, but I had to stop to get ready for the Cardinal's game. Of course after a days work, we still had a lot more work to do. Today we continued with the challenge and finally finished! We were both so excited!

I have to say here that my dad at one point had to come in with the 12 foot ladder in order for us to finish the high walls. Of course he got suckered into actually painting the high walls, because I explained to him that I was slightly terrified of heights...well kind of. Any way it worked, and Daddio helped us reach the heights! Now, let me explain the design of the room. Mom and I decided to paint all of the walls Parakeet except for this one half wall, and we decided we were going to paint that wall the French Roast. Daddio, had come in to help before the French Roast had been applied to the half wall. Of course, after he was finishing painting the high walls he wanted to continue working on things in the basement, so he peaced out and mom and I continued. We finally finished, and it looked great, except for a piece of the wall that dad has to work on. We called dad upstairs to remove the 12 foot ladder out of the bathroom, and also to hear his reaction. As he walked into the bathroom, the first thing out of his mouth was, "Holy Moly, we have our very own Monolith in our house!" For those of you who may not know what in the world a Monolith is, I will define it for you here: A monolith is a geological feature such as a mountain, consisting of a single massive stone or rock, or a single piece of rock placed as, or within, a monument. According to wikipedia. The monolith is also used in the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey"  you can find this clip here. I won't go into much detail of the representation of the monolith in this movie, but it basically signifies advancement.

Well, according to my dad we have our very own monolith in our basement, and if you have seen the movie clip, you will know that it signifies some sort of advancement. If you are down, and need some hope in life, I guess you can come to our bathroom and touch our giant, French Roast monolith.

Keep in mind, this project is still under construction! But, below are some pictures of Jon's bathroom as well as the pictures of the bathroom still under construction.
