Day 24-Making Hamburgers

Most of you who read this are going to think this is very strange, but it's true! I've NEVER made hamburgers before. Yes, I've watched people make them, yes I've given my input on what I want in my burger, but I've never actually made burgers!

Yesterday my dad, Jon, and Keithie were all working down in the basement, outside, doing various jobs that needed completing. I volunteered to make burgers, and dinner if someone would help me grill...because I'm slightly afraid of the grill...which means this has to be something I accomplish in my blogging challenge at some point! Any way, I went to the grocery store, bought all of the goodies that I wanted to make, came home and told the boys I was home, and then started cooking away.

I knew of course that hamburgers needed hamburger, so I put this in the bowl first (DUH!) I've been trying to eat healthy and I had read somewhere that if you use olive oil in place of eggs, it's a healthy improvement...now don't take this seriously and don't think you can do this all of the time, but in this case it worked! So I put some olive oil in with the hamburger, diced some onion, put some garlic salt in with the meat, and of course salt and pepper. At this point Jon came in to make sure I didn't need any help and wondered if he should start the grill. I was so thankful he came in because I had him look at my concoction! He said I should add some Worcestershire sauce and then they would be good. So, I did as I was told and then began trying to form them into patty's. I think this was the hardest part! I was so baffled at how to compact meat, they seriously looked like something out of another planet, they were so deformed...Oh well, hopefully they are good!

I then sauteed some onions, and peppers to put on top of the burgers, and made a mushroom asparagus saute. Jon came in, and said the grill was ready, and next thing I know people are chowing down on the burgers I made! Dad, Jon, and Keith all agreed it was a recipe worth keeping! SUCCESS!!!

I would have to say that is my favorite thing about cooking, the joy and comments people make while eating food I've made. Yes, sometimes I'm simply following a recipe, but still it takes time and energy and some people I've been told have a difficult time following a recipe!
